ISSO TEA SCHOOL VOL.5 How to Brew ISSO TEA Teabags for the Best Flavor
In ISSO TEA SCHOOL VOL.5, we will share tips on how to brew ISSO TEA teabags to enjoy them warm and delicious.
ISSO TEA teabags are carefully packed with the same tea leaves as our loose-leaf teas in eco-teabags. While teabags are convenient to enjoy in a variety of ways, with just a few key points, you can bring out the full flavor of the tea leaves and savor a premium tea experience.
1. Water Temperature is Key
Brewing at the right temperature for each tea allows you to fully appreciate its delicate flavors. You can find the recommended temperatures on the package:
- Signature Sencha, Yutaka Midori Sencha: 80℃ / 175℉
- Hojicha Stem Tea, Black Soybean Hojicha: 100℃ / 212℉
- Genmaicha: 90℃ / 195℉
If you have a kettle with temperature settings, use that, or let boiling water cool down by transferring it to a cup or pot, which lowers the temperature by 5-10℃. Brewing at the right temperature brings out the tea’s umami and sweetness.
2. Pay Attention to Brewing Time
If the tea is brewed for too short a time, it may taste weak, and if brewed too long, it can become too bitter. Follow the recommended brewing times on the package.
3. Pour Gently
If you pour hot water directly over the teabag with too much force, it may disrupt the delicate flavor of the tea leaves. We recommend pouring the hot water into the cup first and then adding the teabag. Gently stir the teabag a few times and let it sit on the surface of the water for a moment before removing it to extract the last drop of flavor.
4. Use Good Quality Water
The quality of water plays a crucial role in bringing out the best flavor in Japanese tea. Ideally, use soft water, and opt for mineral water or filtered water to ensure the best-tasting tea. If you are using tap water, boil it first to remove any chlorine, which can help make the tea taste clearer.
