Moon-Viewing Dumplings, Mooncakes, and Tea
Today is the Mid-Autumn Full Moon, also known as "Otsukimi" in Japan. Celebrated on the 15th day of the 8th month of the lunar calendar, it is a cherished tradition where people enjoy the beauty of the moon shining in the crisp autumn sky. During this festival, moon-viewing dumplings (tsukimi dango) and pampas grass (susuki) are offered to express gratitude for the autumn harvest. The dumplings are shaped to resemble the full moon, while the pampas grass symbolizes the bounty of rice.
The tradition of enjoying the Mid-Autumn Full Moon dates back to ancient China's "Mid-Autumn Festival," where mooncakes, shaped like the full moon, are offered to honor the moon.
At ISSO TEA, we have paired moon-viewing dumplings with Genmaicha Roasted Rice Tea and mooncakes with Black Bean Hojicha.
We hope that you all enjoy the beautiful moon and have a fulfilling time.
