Happy New Year!
In Japan, we celebrate the New Year with osechi (New Year's dishes) and ozoni (New Year's soup). Osechi has its origins in the "sechie" (seasonal festivals) where food was offered to deities to mark seasonal changes. Each ingredient in osechi carries significant meanings, such as blessings for abundant harvests, family safety, prosperity of descendants, and longevity.
Ozoni is another important dish for the New Year, and it varies by region with different ingredients and flavors, making it a delight to enjoy. The origin of ozoni dates back to the practice of boiling rice cakes, offered to the New Year's deity, with the first water drawn of the year. This was a way of receiving blessings from the gods, with hopes for health and happiness in the coming year.
To pair with both osechi and ozoni, we suggest our ISSO Signature Sencha. This time, we will brew it cold to fully bring out the umami and sweetness, while still enjoying its refined and refreshing taste. Served in a wine glass, you can also appreciate its beautiful color. On the first day of the year, it helps to calm the mind and renew the spirit, as if your posture straightens with each sip.
In 2025, we hope ISSO TEA continues to bring healthy and enriching choices to your life. May your new year be filled with calmness, joy, and new discoveries.
We look forward to serving you in the year ahead.
Best wishes for a prosperous New Year!
